Well, Sunday turned into Tuesday...but Adam got the kitchen ceiling up there!
The ceiling is 4x8 sheets of beaded plywood, pre-painted with ceiling paint -- a bad idea 1. because boy hands are dirty and Adam had to nail it up, and 2. it's too....white. But I thought I was being super crafty and economical back in September when I borrowed a paint gun and hosed it all down in the front yard.
The central light fixture is a "Monroe" telescoping pendant by Wilmette Lighting. I dig that it's adjustable -- in my wishful vision, there's an island parked under it. 6 wee can lights will be strategically placed around the perimeter to highlight art and illuminate the prep and sink area. Everything metal is bronze. I even spray-painted the electrical conduit.
Next up for the kitchen is a lot of caulking, touch up paint, ceiling paint and deciding on a pattern for the transom. I'm going to have a friend cut some vinyl for me to stick up there that mimics etched glass. I'm thinkin' argyle. It'll echo the floor. :)
Then there's the cabinets. And the sink wall. And whether or not I want to move the stove. And...that hole in the wall. The hole used to be a bathroom window. Drywall and paint would make it more invisible, but I'm still entertaining the idea of putting cute little shelves in there. That I wouldn't be able to reach. Heh.
I'd love to put a less janky window above the sink - that one is just...bad. How on earth does one trim out a window that sticks out 1" from the wall?
THEN I can start poking at things like trim, crown, backsplash, countertops... it really never ends. I don't know what I'd think about if it DID end.
So that's where I am in Kitchen Land. What do y'all think?
