Well, Sunday turned into Tuesday...but Adam got the kitchen ceiling up there!  The ceiling is 4x8 sheets of beaded plywood, pre-painted with ceiling paint -- a bad idea 1. because boy hands are dirty and Adam had to nail it up, and 2. it's too....white. Gutting a place reveals a lot about people. Each stage of renovation is clearly outlined as we scrape through the layers of the house. There's the original stuff - what's left of it. There's the mid-century updates to kitchen and bath and drywall with LOTS OF PANELING, and then there's the 1999-ish attempt to make it all still livable. Well, in the five days we've owned this house, a lot of stuff looks way cooler. It's a miracle! 758 Euclid Avenue is ours! The first thing Adam did was sweep up a ton of glass. Then we tore down that awful lattice crap on the porch. It was very therapeutic. We still have not closed...apparently there are some shenanigans afoot at the title office. I've endured six months of people telling us we will close this week, by the end of that month, by this day...by tomorrow. We are [finally] closing tomorrow/Tuesday-ish. Anyone have any suggestions as to what sorts of handy tools I should be adding to my demo/cleaning arsenal? There's a chance we might not get this house. Thanks to the fine folks at Cuntrywide not having their act together, the bank that owns the house is probably going to put it back on the market.I suppose if I were gifted about 15 grand, we could just buy it.I don't see that happening. Man...buying a house takes freakin' forever.We got a call from our realtorman last night, informing us that our impossibly low offer of about half the asking price was accepted. Woo for crappy housing market! Yay for us!
